OCRICOM was founded in October 2023 and started its operation in 1.1.2024. The company name is derived as an acronym from the words Optical Coatings Research & Innovation Company which summarizes what our business is about. At the beginning OCRICOM is a family business, owned together by DSc Jarno Reuna and his wife BSc Susanna, but the aim is to grow beyond that, step by step. The goal and purpose of OCRICOM is to complement the Finnish photonics industry by providing services and products related to optical coatings that are not currently available at all, or not at the level they should be. How we operate
We provide optical coatings related design, consultation and fabrication services. During the startup, OCRICOM is utilizing Tampere University Photonics Laboratory Cleanroom Infrastructure, within the know-how of the founder and CEO DSc Reuna. The main system of interest is Cutting Edge Coatings Ion Beam Sputtering system (IBS), that is able to provide top-notch quality coatings for a broad range of applications. Other relevant equipment for coating development include e-beam evaporators, PECVDs, ICP, RIE, AFM, spectrophotometer, and SEM. All the while the regular work progresses, we work constantly towards the goal of housing our own deposition systems and a characterization laboratory for strengthening the regional photonics industry and research capabilities.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/ Co-Founder
DSc (Tech) Jarno Reuna
The first full-time employee of the company, whose main focus lies in the growth of the business and establishing the stepping marks for reaching the company goals. DSc Reuna has nearly 10 years experience working both in the photonics industry as well as in the academia and he sees great importance in close collaboration between the two. Both his Master’s and PhD theses concerned the development of novel antireflection coatings for high efficiency multijunction solar cells. His role as the responsible person for several high-end coating equipment during his university career exposed him to design and development of optical coatings for varying applications. Being passionate about the optical coatings design, as well as the deposition methods and systems, he is the right person to approach with any coating needs you might have.
Director of Administration and Quality/Co-Founder/Chair of the Board
BSc (Eng) Susanna Reuna
Susanna has acted as the chair of the board of OCRICOM from the beginning of the company’s path and is an integral part of outlining the company roadmap. Her role in the company is development and strategy orientated and she joined the company full-time in the March 2025. She holds a BSc degree in the field of electrical and automation engineering and her work focuses on QA.
Process Engineer
MSc (Tech) Helmer Piirilä
Helmer joined OCRICOM as a process engineer in August 2025 to assist in IBS depositions and sample processing. He’s working part time at the company, as he is currently working on his doctoral thesis at Tampere University Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) with the topic of 2-3µm III-V hybrid lasers for photonic integration.
Helmer’s background at ORC focuses on processing and characterization of mid-infrared III-V laser emitters for applications in gas sensing and non-destructive imaging.
